Time: 2:18 am
Location: John St. at Highway 101

On Wednesday, July 7th, 2021 at about 2:18 am Salinas Police Officers were dispatched to the area of John Street and Highway 101 for a reported injury traffic collision. Officers located a motorcyclist down in the roadway and a mid-sized SUV with major front-end damage.

Despite lifesaving efforts, the 28-year-old male motorcycle rider of Salinas was declared deceased on scene. Preliminary information suggests the motorcycle was traveling eastbound on John Street and crossing over Highway 101.  For an unknown reason, the motorcycle crossed over the double yellow line and into the westbound lane of traffic and collided head-on with the SUV.

The SUV driver sustained minor injuries and was transported to a local hospital. It is unknown at this time if drugs/alcohol were involved in this collision. The identity of the motorcycle rider will not be released until his family is notified. John Street at the Highway 101 over-crossing was closed in both directions for about six hours for this investigation. The Salinas Police Department sends our condolences to the family and friends of the motorcycle rider.
