Incident: Homicide Investigation Update

On July 5, 2022, at approximately 3:15 am a Marina PD unit leaving a local hospital came across a single vehicle collision in the area of Natividad Road and Lunsford Drive. Salinas Police officers responded and located 29-year-old Faith Elizabeth Valenzuela in the vehicle. She was not conscious or breathing so officers began CPR. They checked Ms. Valenzuela for additional injuries and discovered she also had suffered gunshot wounds. She was transported to a local hospital but died from her injuries.  

On July 7, 2022 Salinas Police Detectives and Salinas Police Violence Suppression Task Force members located Jacob Bustamante (22) in the City of Salinas and took him into custody. Bustamante was later lodged at the Monterey County Jail and booked for murder.
